27.02.2008 | PROJECT NEWS | OH NO! NOT ANOTHER PLATFORMER!

Hi there, Web 2.0! Here is a new game - a 2 week project, much like Kitty 1. It's still kind of a beta (lacks gamepad support) and will probably totally bug up and do stupid stuff here and there.

NOTE: This is a total rip-off of Cave Story, Super Mario Bros 2, Donkey Kong for the GBC and Darkside Adventures and therefore you shouldn't play it at all! It's also a frustrating game overall. In other words: Not much different than the other games I've made!

Have fun or not - it's up to you and that's good that way! Ciao~

UPDATE! Added gamepad support. Dunno if it works the way it should.

Don't you have two other games you're making too? Your amazing! How can you make 3 games yet the one with two weeks of work gets done faster is beyond me, but you've got a gift. Kudos my good sir, kudos.

Hey, this is a quite good game. It even runs reasonably well on Ubuntu using WINE.

EXCELLENT! But one thing is very strange: The third level of Stargirl plays super-slowly compared to the first two; the game lags a load there.

awesome stuff, but I found a weird little bug. stage 3, put the block near the lowest part of the ceiling slope under the exit door. jump up and try jumping through, it triggers an instant death. http://img407.imageshack.us/my.php?image=stargirlbugvh0.png

adrian: Thanks for the report! the jump-through platform force stargirl into the wall and cause her to go splat! it's a tough thing to fix.

monkey o' doom: it's sloppy coding. the game runs slow with too many objects.

simpan: hmm... in the beginning, you need the winged dot to progress, then there's a path to bomb free and then there are rotating platforms which you only need to jump across. which of these is it?

Just wondering, why don't you set it so people can set their own controls? It's annoying to have to use something I'm not used to, and I don't have a gamepad. Great game btw! :)

Hey Bernie, regarding your tip to Simpan: I'm having the same problem. what do you mean by "a path to bomb free"? I can't figure out what to do with the bomb. I'm probably going to feel really silly once someone explains what to do :/

SD: Sounds like the first part of the levels. Throw the winged dot UP after the second lava pool and run/wall jump up there. :)

Hey Bernie, the wall-run thing doesn't work very well, that needs to be more forgiving. And letting go of the direction buttons doesn't help at all. It means I'm completely stuck at 4.2 or so. Otherwise great stuff. I always look forward to your games.

I think I finished it the game (?) but at the end, at the part the goes "Hello this is your account", the game just froze. I pushed all of the buttons I could think of, including escape, but nothing worked. Overall nice job though. Pretty fun! I have to say though that the last level is very hard and seemingly out of step difficulty-wise with the rest of the game - the problem is that to make some of the jumps the main character has to be running, but when making certain precise jumps sometimes she'll suddenly stop running and fall short on the next jump. I would really recommend that the character should be able to start running from a standstill so that you aren't doomed to die if she breaks her run on a small platform.

great game! right now i am on the last boss, who its really tough, like the part that you have to wal jump to pass though, and some times the boss throw a bullet at the exacly time and makes impossible to try again before he crush you. very good game indeed

I died after beating the boss in 6-1b (a block crushed me right after the text box popped up) and now I can't beat the level. I go back to the boss room and Glasses appears but nothing happens.

Chris: I can't seem to reproduce the running thing. As long as I keep the running button pressed, the missus keeps running, no matter how much I jump around. Immediate running was left out on purpose, though. If you slow down during a jump, you need to gain speed again.

jack: Yeah, that happens sometimes. I might be able to lock bullets during that part, though. Gonna check.

e: I don't see much of a problem with the wall jump. It's basically run into wall - hit jump button during grabbing ani - repeat. As long as you press the button during the grabbing animation, the missus should jump off the wall.

e: Oh, I get it now! The wall jump only works properly if the run button is pressed, which I always do automatically! That's kind of stupid. Let's see if I can come up with a fix!

Wall jump fix implemented, some moving platform bugs fixed and some other stuff fixed.

in vista when i start the game the character keeps moving to the left, but it's not doing it on the menu screen. very weird, like when you connect a joystick or gamepad that isnt calibrated in the old days.

Hi Bernie. Congrats on the game. My favorite, so far, though I haven't finished it yet (stuck on that infamous 4-2). Anyway, am making a (really) small game in MMF2 and I was wondering how do you run the game at twice the size (you know, that part where we can chose fullscreen, window 1X or window 2X). Thanks alot mate. And once again, great little game you got there!

That was kinda annoying to do. I'm running stargirl game as a sub-application from another app. In this app I have three frames - one each for 1x, 2x and fullscreen. You gotta put all the extensions you used in this application and play the sound files you're going to use to make MMF2 add it to the compiled version.

I got past the game 100% now. Great game all the way. What's funny is I'm only just realizing now how all your platformers have been based on the same universe. I can see that star game is based on one of those star people from AGWaK2. And I never even noticed that that same 2 year old has been the main villian in all of them. All I'll say is, I look forward to more of this series! :D

Hi all! Great game, really lov(ing)ed it (right now I'm working on getting 100%, which is a difficult task)! But...the last checkpoint in the final level doesn't work for me. Makes the last boss REALLY difficult. Anyway, keep making games man, I love them!
